Different study & post-study options
- Basic, Advanced, and ESL options are available to all international students.
- All international students are allowed to work part-time (20 hours per week maximum) during studies and full-time during the off-semester period. The off semester is usually the summer/spring semester (begins May).
- Wage may vary by province, but typically Minimum falls between CAD 13-16 per hour.
- Graduates are eligible for Post Graduate Work Permits (PGWP).
- Students must graduate with at least 1 full year of study with a minimum certificate.
Intakes & General Admissions Process
- Canada usually has two intakes, September and January, and all institutions offer September intake. Semesters are not predetermined, students can register for whatever courses they want according to their choice (as long as they follow the study permit terms).
- At January intake, fewer programs are offered.
- Some institutions also offer a limited May intake, but many institutions have fewer programs during the summer months.
- Some institutions offer summer classes, with longer hours but run for shorter weeks and usually end in July.
- Undergraduate and Postgraduate students should have the required documents:
- Official High school/university transcripts
- Scanned copy of passport
- Proof of English language proficiency
- Statement of Purpose (written by the student)
Tuition fees & payments
- Tuition fees depend on the program and the type of institution you choose.
- Tuition for most Canadian institutions ranges between CAD 10,000 to CAD 15,000 mark for a semester on a full course.
- Institutions require the payment of a tuition deposit to secure placements, which can be significant payments that are collected towards tuition payments.
- Tuition fees do not include accommodation costs, public transport passes, or student supplementary fees and textbooks.
- Using FlyWire to make international bank transfers is highly recommended, although most institutions still accept credit card payments.
- All application fees are non-refundable in case of visa application rejection.
- Students should budget between CAD 600 to CAD 1,200 for textbooks per semester, textbooks can be sold back to the school at a discount.
Basic visa requirements and processing
Students required the following documents to apply for a study permit:
- proof of acceptance (LOA)
- proof of identity, (passport scan only)
- proof of financial support (minimum CAD 10,000 per year, does not include tuition fees).
Students may also need:
- A letter of explanation (why the student wants to study in Canada)
- A custodian declaration (minors only, schools do not provide custodianship)
- other documents
- if the IRCC requests documents from you for an application in progress.
Student Direct Stream (SDS)
The Student Direct Stream (SDS) allows students from eligible countries to get their study permit faster.
- Student visa processing times vary by region, but usually within 20 calendar days, but other applications may take longer.
- The fee for SDS Approx CAD 150
- A study permit is not a study visa.
