Visa process
Students from the EU/EEA do not need a visa to study in Hungary. But Students from outside the EEA should contact the nearest Hungarian embassy to apply for a student visa and residence permit before arrival. Students should apply at least six weeks before departure because processing is likely to take at least a month. In addition, international students who will be studying in Hungary for more than 90 days and who are not EU students must apply for a long-term student visa.
Documents required for the student visa are:
- Passport (valid for at least 6 months)
- Two passport-sized photos
- Complete visa application form
- Letter of acceptance from a university
- Proof of health insurance
- Proof of paid tuition fees
- Proof of sufficient funds to meet the living expenses
- Proof of accommodation place in Hungary
Residence permit
To study in Hungary, students must apply for a residence permit within 15 days of arrival in Hungary. Both EU and non-EU students who intend to study in Hungary for longer than 90 days must comply with this.
